If you were sitting alone in your house wondering what people like to snack on during a global pandemic, today’s your lucky day because that’s exactly the question we set out to answer. Pulling data from our social media analysis tool, we crunched the numbers (among other things) and here’s what we found.
We tracked 219 brands and according to ListenFirst’s Social Engagement Score, the following Snack Brands have gained the most new fans, post engagements, and official mentions on Twitter between March 1 – 24th, 2020:
Slim Jim’s Meme game is going strong
The brand has focused their content strategy on meme’s since the inception of their Instagram account in 2015. Recently, Slim Jim has incorporated few quarantine-like messaging in a light, humorous way, sprinkled among the brand’s typical strategy of encouraging users to follow their account.
The brand’s #3 most engaging post still followed their typical strategy of encouraging “gang members” to engage with their content and follow their account, but added the post caption, “It’s crazy out there, so be good to each other in here – Say something nice to your fellow G🅰️🆖🤙”
Slim Jim’s 7th most engaging March post poked fun at this trending article, but instead of hoarding hand sanitizer, the brand suggested hoarding Slim Jims.
While some brands have halted or slowed product promotion to be sensitive during the pandemic, Slim Jim has found a way to not only incorporate the global crisis in a funny way, but also continue their usual strategy on social.
Brands are offering ways to incorporate their products into home cooked meals
Oreo is continuing to promote their products on social by sharing recipes and asking if their fan’s “streaming buddy” has Oreo Popcorn.
Nutella is hard at work making sure that their followers are supplied with “Breakfast Inspiration” recipes while many are at home for this meal.

Looks like people are most excited about Fruit Snacks organically, followed by Crisps, and Ice Cream. Others talked about what they’re doing while snacking, like playing Animal Crossing, reading their Twitter News Feed and watching videos on YouTube.
