NEW YORK, NY (September 2, 2014) – Responding to a market need for an independent measurement of how consumers are interacting with major media properties across social media and other digital platforms, ListenFirst Media today launched the first syndicated rating system for fan engagement with television and film.
By aggregating engagement data across the most critical and widely trafficked digital platforms, ListenFirst Digital Audience Ratings™ (DAR) offer insights about what television programming and films resonate the strongest with their fans.
For the film industry, this affords valuable information it can use to complement traditional tracking/research and adjust and optimize marketing strategies to enhance box office returns. For the television landscape, ListenFirst DAR provides a view into which television programs are captivating fans on a daily basis, regardless of whether they’re in-season, out-of-season, or streaming on platforms such as Netflix or Amazon. Most notably, ListenFirst DAR will provide advertisers, marketers, and sales teams with a measurement standard to assess the value of consumer engagement with leading entertainment properties.
ListenFirst DAR is based on an algorithm that measures fan engagement with television programs and films across Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, Wikipedia, and YouTube. This standardized cross-platform rating will enable studio and television executives, as well as advertisers and agencies, to understand the magnitude of fan affinity for all film and television programming, and compare any property’s performance to the rest of the competitive landscape.
More than 40 major studios, broadcast networks and cable channels, including A+E Networks (A&E, History, and Lifetime), AMC Networks, The CW, Relativity Media, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, USA Network and others have signed on as Launch Partners; additionally, the Weekly Top 10 television programs and Top 5 films will be published exclusively with Variety, establishing ListenFirst DAR as the industry standard for measuring digital engagement with major media content.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” topped the charts this week, driven by 13MM Views, Thumbs Ups and Comments on his FRIENDS reunion skit, featuring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow. The YouTube clip was also shared on the official “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Facebook page, where it received nearly 10k Likes, Shares and Comments.

“The Conjuring” spinoff “Annabelle” isn’t hitting theaters until October, but it’s already generating huge buzz amongst its enormous social audience (1.1M fans). The film leads the overall DAR this week after the release of its second trailer. A 6-second teaser clip shared the day before release contributed to the film’s rating, sparking early buzz and furthering this week’s strong performance.
